Regenerative MedicineResearchers Propose 10 Biological Hallmarks to Explain Facial Aging
Facial aging reflects changes across skin, fat, blood vessels, and supporting tissues—not just wrinkles. This paper proposes ten interconnected processes to explain those changes, including declining tissue repair, persistent inflammation, aging cells, and loss of structural support. The authors reviewed existing evidence and organized these processes into a framework intended to guide future research and potentially improve aesthetic treatment planning. Six proposed hallmarks received the authors’ Tier 1 evidence rating, while four received Tier 2 ratings; evidence concerning deeper facial tissues was less direct. This is a proposed framework, not a trial showing that any treatment rejuvenates the face or extends healthspan. Its clinical value requires prospective testing against conventional assessment methods. This summary is based on the abstract only.
