Sleep & RecoveryDigital CBT for Insomnia Delivers Clinically Meaningful Sleep Gains Across 14,000 People
Researchers pooled 25 studies and nearly 14,200 participants to evaluate SHUTi, one of the most-studied digital cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia programs. Participants saw clinically meaningful reductions in insomnia severity, sleep onset latency, and nighttime wakefulness. Compared to online education controls across 10 randomized controlled trials, SHUTi produced large effect sizes on insomnia scores and moderate effects on sleep diary measures, with benefits persisting at 6- and 12-month follow-ups. About 64% of users completed a full therapeutic dose. The program worked across medically, psychiatrically, and demographically diverse populations worldwide, suggesting digital CBT-I is a scalable, evidence-backed solution for the insomnia epidemic that directly threatens healthspan and longevity.
